Postdoctoral Research Associate
Mark Vardy

Mark Vardy is a qualitative sociologist who is interested in the social processes through which climate change becomes meaningful for people. His doctoral work, at Queen’s University, Canada, examined how the impacts of climate change in the Arctic are being understood and responded to by circumpolar actors in the nexus of science-for-policy. His postdoctoral appointment with the Climate Futures Initiative proposes to use ethnographic methods to examine, with Michael Oppenheimer, how scientific experts make decisions about how to best represent the science of climate change to policymakers.
