Bio

I have joined the Politics Department at Princeton University in 2018 as Senior Research Specialist working on the Arab Barometer. What does that mean? I am part of a small team of researcher that coordinates, designs, manages, collects, and analyzes survey data in the Middle East and North Africa. The project has been running since 2006, so there is a lot of data already out there, but, yes, we are  very eager and just about to field the 5th wave of the AB. Very exciting indeed! Enter Kat.

Before my work with the AB, I worked as Research Associate in Survey Methodology at City, University of London (more cross-national surveys, among other things I worked on and with the European Social Survey); Research Associate on the Austrian National Election Study in the Department of Methods in the Social Sciences at the University of Vienna (a lot of national surveys, but, yes, surveys); as well as Post-doctoral Teaching Fellow at the University of Aberdeen (not only surveys, also a lot of other things).

I obtained my PhD in Politics from the University of Exeter within the Marie Curie ITN on Electoral Democracy (ELECDEM) in 2013. I feel very grateful that I could be part of this! As Early Stage Marie Curie Researcher, I was able to second in the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan working with the Comparative Study of Electoral Systems (you get it, more surveys here, it's a theme) as well as in the Politics Department at the European University Institute as Visiting Scholar.

I am a Co-chair of the Steering Committee of the ECPR Standing Group on Political Methodology since 2015. Educated guess what I do there? Yeah focus on more survey stuff, but also other research methods. I have also been involved in the ECPR Winter School in Methods and Techniques in 2014 and 2017.

My research interest and expertise is survey methodology and research methods (not a surprise, is it?); (comparative) public opinion and political attitudes (who would have thought?); social and political psychology; and electoral politics.
