The extreme fields and charge densities that occur when a high-intensity laser is focused on the surface of a solid accelerate electrons and ions and produce terahertz, ultraviolet, and x-ray radiation. We concentrate on relativistic high harmonic generation, with which we hope to create attosecond pulses of extreme ultraviolet and x-ray radiation, providing a high energy and high efficiency source for attosecond science.
