Abstract:
Global climate strategies have recently increased the focus on reducing methane, including pledges by many countries to reduce methane emissions by 2030. Agriculture generates 40-46% of methane emissions, but policymakers have indicated that they have less understanding about how to reduce these emissions. This new discussion paper estimates potential for agricultural methane reductions by 54% from likely 2050 levels and 36% from present levels, describes how and recommends some strategies for moving forward.
