Michael obtained his PhD at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich in the organic chemistry lab of Thomas Carell. His research focused on the development of sulfoxide based reagents: isobaric labeling tags for efficient generation of complementary fragment ions for quantification and enrichable, MS-cleavable crosslinkers to elucidate protein structure and identify protein-protein interactions.
